First it was the ‘brickies’, now it’s the ‘blockies’

Last year it was half bricks, this year it’s breeze blocks for trophies at the local business awards - which have attracted record entries.

For its 2023 awards, the Hamilton Central Business Association hit on the idea of handing out decorated half bricks from the old Hamilton Hotel that once graced the under-development Waikato Regional Theatre site.

This year, the “brickies” have morphed into the “blockies”, with the awards being made from old breeze blocks taken from the demolished Founders Theatre.
